It is sometimes sold as a combo\u00a0with APM.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.itluxembourg.lu\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Radio_915_cables1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-710\" src=\"https:\/\/www.itluxembourg.lu\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Radio_915_cables1.jpg\" alt=\"Radio_915_cables[1]\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.itluxembourg.lu\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Radio_915_cables1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/www.itluxembourg.lu\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Radio_915_cables1-510x340.jpg 510w, https:\/\/www.itluxembourg.lu\/site\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Radio_915_cables1-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h1>Comparison<\/h1>\n<p>The main differences between 3DR radios and Ultimate LRS are the following :<\/p>\n<h2>Connection speed<\/h2>\n<p>Ultimate LRS is much faster,\u00a0here&#8217;s a comparison of connection speed between Ultimate LRS and 3DR radio :<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Ultimate LRS and 3DR radio connection speed comparison\" src=\"https:\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/133086385?dnt=1&amp;app_id=122963\" width=\"530\" height=\"298\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"autoplay; fullscreen; picture-in-picture; clipboard-write\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h2>Power<\/h2>\n<p>3DR radio : 100 milliwatts<\/p>\n<p>ULRS : 400mW, can easily be modified to\u00a01 Watt.<\/p>\n<h2>Cost<\/h2>\n<p>3DR radio :\u00a0$100 for two modules.<\/p>\n<p>ULRS costs\u00a0$57.90 for two modules (OrangeRX 1W)<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s also possible to use a 1W module + a 100 mW module\u00a0for a cost of $48.94<\/p>\n<h2>RC Link<\/h2>\n<p>3DR radios : only a telemetry link, RC must be transmitted by\u00a0another mean.<\/p>\n<p>ULRS transmits telemetry linke and RC signals.<\/p>\n<h2>RSSI<\/h2>\n<p>RSSI is an indicator of signal strength : it allows to know\u00a0when we are at edge of reception.<\/p>\n<p>ULRS provide RSSI on the TX and on the RX, which can for example be shown on an analog meter, a voltmeter, or an OSD.<\/p>\n<h2>Buzzer<\/h2>\n<p>ULRS provides an acoustic signal when a packet is lost, which gives a real time feedback of the link quality (for long range).<\/p>\n<h2>USB<\/h2>\n<p>3DR radios have built in USB connectivity, while ULRS requires an FTDI (USB to serial) adapter.<\/p>\n<h2>Sensitivity<\/h2>\n<p>3DR radios has\u00a0a sensitivity of -117 dBm.<\/p>\n<p>ULRS has a better sensitivity of -120 dBm.<\/p>\n<h2>Range<\/h2>\n<p>The power difference of 10 dBm (1000mW = 30dBm) &#8211; (100mW = 20 dBm), and the sensitivity difference of 3 dBm (-120 dBm &#8211; (-117 dBm)), makes a total difference of 13 dBm, which gives ULRS a range of more than 4 times the range of the 3DR radios.<\/p>\n<p>Good antennas allow to go even further : <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itluxembourg.lu\/site\/ultimate-lrs-40-km-setup\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a user reached 40 km<\/a> with Ultimate LRS.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Introduction What&#8217;s a 3DR radio ? 3DR radio is a product from 3D Robotics\u00a0which provides a telemetry link, and is often used by\u00a0APM users.
